Like any troubled country we try to forget our day-to-day problems and strive for normality. The autumn show of the Orchid Society of Zimbabwe is one such event. A selection of the orchids are in the album below.

- This one the prize for the best flower on show. They did all have their names attached but I did not note them down. Apparently a lot are imported from Holland!

- It’s quite easy to see shapes of animals in orchids. This one I called the 3 eared rabbit.

The Orchid Society of Zimbabwe has a small premises at the Mukuvisi Woodlands on the way to the airport. Quite a few orchids were for sale though I did not buy any.
Zimbabwe Absurdity 
Orchids flourish here. I have one that has never flowered so much as this year. However, a friend of mine brought me one from the Island of Madeira, very similar to the 2nd one in your 2nd column, but I cannot get it to flower. I’m going to change the soil and hope for the best.
You CAN be too kind to orchids! I have some cymbidiums (cimbidia?) which get just water and they flourish. They are just in a bucket with charcoal in the bottom and coarse pine bark on top – no soil as such.

Years ago I bought excellent publication at Harare Showgrounds on orchid care. I think the author was Mr Pope (Zw). I have misplaced it. Does anyone know how I could replace it?

I love orchids I am proud of all the nature and flowers we have in Zim .its the best country in the world regardless of the economy and politics.
