The Husqvana Mud Run is an annual charity event held just down the road from my house on the old golf course of the Mt Pleasant Sports Club (now the Jam Tree). There are no prizes and for the entry fee, most of which goes to the KidzCan charity, you can do as many circuits of the assault course as you like. It’s more than a bit slippery due to the heavy clay soil, and more than a bit of added water, so nobody stays clean for long and the fun is infectious. Even as a non-participant I couldn’t help but laugh and enjoy the morning. It certainly beats thinking about the current disaster that is the Zimbabwe economy.
I do wonder if this sort of event would be possible in the developed world. I saw very young children completely unsupervised just bumbling along enjoying life.

Wonderful photos! You really got some great angles, motions and emotions. As to the ‘completely unsupervised’ child. Not so. You were watching and I’m sure others were too. That is what is still possible in Zim. Here in U.S., not so. Sadly not so… Thanks for your post!
I did see one adult who was walking around the course with a group of boys – they were on their 4th circuit and he’d had enough. That aside I didn’t see any dedicated supervisors. For sure, if anyone had seen a problem they’d have reacted and I think the trickier obstacles had assistants. I’m sure the entry forms would have had a waiver but in Zimbabwe people tend not to sue for incidents in situations like this and I think that this leads to a freer, albeit more risky, environment.
My sister, who lives in Spokane WA, says she’s heard of something similar over there but she doesn’t know much about it.

Looks like there are a lot of commercial obstacle course events in the UK. This one https://raceforlife.cancerresearchuk.org/about-our-events/pretty-muddy is specifically for raising money for charity. Our version looks a lot more casual.
